HDL % of total cholesterol
HDL cholesterol expressed as a share of total cholesterol.
What it is
This ratio recasts HDL against the total. A higher percentage is generally the favourable direction; it carries the same information as the total/HDL ratio in another form.
Why it matters
It is a derived number: the underlying HDL, non-HDL and total values are where interpretation actually happens.

How it affects the body
Reflects the balance between cholesterol carried on protective HDL particles and everything else.
For athletes
Anabolic steroid use characteristically crushes HDL and with it this percentage - one of the clearest blood signatures of a harsh cycle.
