Lipase
A pancreatic enzyme that digests fat; the preferred marker for pancreas inflammation.
What it is
Lipase comes almost entirely from the pancreas, making it more specific than amylase for pancreatic problems.
Why it matters
A significantly raised lipase with abdominal symptoms points at the pancreas and needs prompt clinical assessment.

How it affects the body
It splits dietary fat for absorption; blood levels reflect the pancreas, not digestion itself.
For athletes
Not a training marker; unexplained elevations belong with a clinician.
