Troponin T (high sensitivity)

Typical unit ng/L

A heart muscle protein; the other standard assay for heart muscle injury.

What it is

High-sensitivity troponin T serves the same purpose as troponin I on different laboratory platforms. The two are not interchangeable numerically.

Why it matters

Interpreted urgently and in context, like troponin I: unexpected elevation with symptoms is an emergency-care question.

This guide is educational only and cannot diagnose you. Discuss results, especially anything outside your laboratory’s reference interval, or that does not match how you feel, with a GP or other appropriately qualified clinician.

How it affects the body

Part of heart muscle's contractile machinery, normally absent from blood in more than trace amounts.

For athletes

As with troponin I, extreme endurance work can cause small transient rises - still never a number to self-interpret.
